"A Very Original, Great Singer/Songwriter!" - Kent Folk on BBC Radio Kent

From foot-stomping folk to heartfelt ballads to historical commentary and story telling, Nick draws from the well of traditional and contemporary folk to compose his songs. His compositions evoke images of centuries gone by, be that wassailing in the winter, the re-telling of Viking raids in Kent, or spurned love.

In this past year, Nick has travelled around the UK performing at festivals such as England's Medieval Festival, UK West Coast Folk Festival, Ely Folk Festival (where Nick won the Spotlight Competition), Filey Folk Festival, Sandwich Folk & Ale Festival and Rochester Sweeps Festival , and has been booked for and Southdowns Folk Festival. In the past, he has even performed at Eaglewood Folk Festival in Ontario, Canada, and was a regular on the much missed BBC Radio Kent show Douglas Welch's “Kent Folk”.

In October 2024, Nick released his new EP 'Of Ash & Oak' which comprises of five folk songs, four of which are very much in the traditional folk vein. A follow up EP, 'Growing Up, Growing Old or Dying', was released in April 2025 and consisted of traditional folk songs that audience members requested recordings of.

Releases Reviews:

"That artists such as Nick Lawrence continue to perpetuate music making and story-telling within the folk tradition, in this case via the 'Songs of Ash & Oak' E.P., is both gratifying and welcome." - FATEA Magazine

"Nick Lawrence has an innate ability to draw you into his world. As he sings on his EP, I found myself really impressed by his vocal talents. His voice invites you to travel through his songs with delight." - Simply Folk Magazine

Review from Nick's performance at UK West Coast Folk Festival:

"...Nick Lawrence appeared to be a man with many songs, and in a hurry to share them, and with good reason, self admittedly Dylan influenced, he could demonstrate the urgency of some of his early work in particular, as though he had arrived via Highway 61 rather than the M5. It wasn’t all one man and his guitar though, as he was equally capable of delivering a fine a Capella number, sometimes with the guitar simply used as a percussion accompaniment." - North West Folk
