You can watch the last few Burns nights livestreamed on this website.
Burns night was our mum’s birthday and my parents always threw a wild party so I grew up thinking it was a normal thing to do. Towards the end of the night the men stood at one end of the room , I like to think with a drink in one hand and an arm around another’s shoulder and sang the songs. That was what happened at parties then.
Our Burns supper is legendary with traditional food of haggis (vegan too!) tatties and neeps (that’s potatoes and turnips / swede to you) Cranachan (raspberries cream (+vegan) oat flakes and whisky.) …And a nip of whisky to toast the immortal bard after an address to the haggis. We will have performers of Burns and other Scottish songs. TBA. Can’t guarantee live bagpipes. The price allows you to take a punt - but get in early – this one sells out every year.
Slick it is not…but if you enjoy being part of a community event, eating traditional Scottish food, laughing, helping out and meeting people then this will be a memorable evening. Actually, if you don’t like those things you will remember it anyway for the wonderful music.
